Despite the fact that I had decided my previous grilled chicken wings were hands down the best chicken wings I’d ever had, I couldn’t help but wonder how they could be topped. Grilling the wings is a must – it gives the skin a nice crispness and the chicken a smoky flavor that I love. As for the flavors, I’ve long toyed with some Asian-laced chicken wing, and being on a Thai kick, I started thinking about flavors that would lend lots of flavor, a little spice, and taste oh so nice. Popcorn is one of my go-to snacks, because it takes so little time and *can* be healthy, depending on what I put on it (but most of the time, mine’s not). A few years ago I bought an air popper, and I haven’t went back to the popcorn-in-a-bag since. Fresh butter tastes so much better.
However, some days I get in the mood for something a little different, and that’s how I end up with new popcorn toppings. Today it was jalapeno Tabasco with a little butter and salt, and it was definitely a winner. I heated up a 1/4 cup of green tabasco with a little less than a tablespoon of butter, poured it over the freshly popped corn, salted, and I had an instant winner!
Perfect for curling up with a movie or with a game day beer!

Since I had a ton of zucchini to deal with, I thought I would make a couple of batches of this recipe and freeze most of the loaves, since bread freezes nicely.
That was the plan, but it went a little awry as we’ve snacked and nibbled our way through two and a half loaves now. This morning I finally tucked one lone loaf into the freezer for a good winter snack. (more…)

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Japan, and I’m still reeling from all of the amazing food we had a chance to eat. From fresh sushi to sukiyaki to kaiseki, we were able to try some familiar favorites as well as plenty of items we never had before. One of those “never had before” dishes was, for lack of a better term at the time, deep fried octopus balls. Imagine my surprise this morning when reading the Kitchn that I was finally able to find out what they were. (more…)
