Filled with teriyaki tofu, red jalapeño, mango, scallions, cucumber, yellow pepper, and Napa cabbage tossed with grated ginger, rice wine vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Peanut soy dipping sauce on the side. These are definitely going into my summer rotation!
This tea thing isn’t so bad after all. Tiny finger sandwiches, sweet chocolates, and scones with jam and cream make a great midday snack! At Westminster Abbey’s cafe.
I must play catch up over the next few days now that I’m back to the land of strong internet signal. I’ve checked off another continent and visited (too briefly) a land of one of my favorite cuisines, Morocco. Sitting atop the Cafe Darna in Marrakech’s square today, I enjoyed this simple salad of tomatoes, cucumber, green pepper, and onion. While this sounds a bit mundane, the entire mixture was seasoned with not just salt and pepper, but very fresh cumin, which made this dish divine. Washed down with some of the sweetest lemon juice I’ve ever tasted, this pre-meal snack hit the spot on a hot afternoon.
This time we just popped in for a drink and a snack. I opted for a whisky sour, which was made with homemade sour mix and included an egg white… and it shouldn’t be made any other way. For snacks we shared a terrine of pork and chicken livers with perfectly toasted rustic bread, and I hoarded the Carlingford rock oysters for myself. Perfect little briny jewels, they were. (more…)
